Siding issues, a crumbling chimney and roof were all problems that Paul and Nancy had to deal with on their home they have lived in for nearly 25 years. What may seem like an easy fix for some homeowners, was not as easy for the them.
“We didn’t have the cash and we’re both disabled,” Nancy said. “It’s hard to come up with that amount of money for a major repair like that.”
Nancy and Paul spent countless hours scouring the internet for programs and contractors that fit their needs for home improvement with prices that matched what they could afford.
“I started wondering if there was a place for low income disabled seniors for any kind of assistance, and I ended up looking at Habitat for Humanity,” Nancy said. “I didn’t realize that they had a home repairs program.”
Through our home repairs program, we’re able to partner with eligible applicants for exterior work and accessibility modifications on their homes. For Nancy and Paul, this included new roofing and siding done by our subcontractor Diaz Brother’s Remodeling, and a fix for their chimney.
“I used to work in the trades, and the people that have worked here, it’s like they’re working on their own house,” Paul said. “They’re very conscientious and that’s something I appreciate.”
Altogether, the work only took about two weeks. And with the rainy season in full swing, Paul and Nancy are just waiting on the last finishing touch: new paint to the exterior of their home.
“Every step of this process has just been one blessing on top of another,” Nancy said. “It’s truly been a lifesaver for us.”
