Introducing our Heroes with Heart partner family the Wuelfings: father Greg, mother Olivia, son Josh (age 10) and daughter Ravyn (age 5). Greg served in the Army National Guard and was part of a company sent initially to the Middle East in October 2003 and returned in March 2005. On January 30, 2005, while serving in Iraq, Greg sustained grenade shrapnel injuries that ultimately earned him a Purple Heart Medal. Today Greg serves as a devoted husband and engaged father. Much of the household centers around Ravyn who was born deaf and with 3 heart defects. After many surgeries, Ravyn now has cochlear implants and hearing aids, but still suffers from congestive heart failure.

When she received the news that they were selected to partner with Habitat, Olivia says her initial reaction was one of shock, “it was one of those moments where you just have to pinch yourself”. Her husband, Greg was also excited to partner with Habitat, mentioning that his favorite part of this journey has been the days at the build site. “It’s been great to go out to the build site and work alongside the volunteers and hear why they choose to give their time to this cause, and my family.”

Together with Habitat, the Wuelfings look forward being able to personalize their home with paint and landscaping as well as providing a safe environment for Ravyn that includes visual smoke detectors, doorbell, and other safety necessities. Safety accommodations aside, both Joshua and Ravyn said their favorite part of their new home will be the new bedroom and closet that they each will get, while their parents are most looking forward to hosting friends and family over for BBQ’s in the summertime and the peace of mind they will have that not worrying about constant rent increases and the stability of having a home of their own.

Join us this Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 1018 Alexis Lane North in Keizer, at 10 a.m. to celebrate the home dedication for the Wuelfings, and the beginning of a new chapter of homeownership.
